The Big Draw Antwerpen

Ook dit jaar deed ik mee aan de Big Draw, ditmaal in Antwerpen. 

2maal zat ik netzoals vorig jaar in de portrettenfabriek om enthousiaste vrijwilligers te tekenen. 

Het principe was hetzelfde. Teken voor 5 minuten de persoon in het gat aan de andere kant van de tafel. Wissel daarna je tekeningen met de illustrator langs je en teken nog een 5minuten verder op zijn tekening. Om die dan beide af te geven aan het model.

Maar ook door Otis, een 4 jarig meisje dat ons tekende terwijl wij haar aan het tekenen waren. Zo schattig dat ze was. 

Friends of comedy

Zou je een affiche voor ons kunnen maken voor een comedynight. Dat de comedians er als karikatuur opstaan. Das een toffe opdracht dacht ik bij mezelf. En ik ging aan het werk. De gezichten werden bestudeerd en er werd geschetst.

Dit was de originele tekening die ik heb gescand en daarna uiteraard digitaal wat bewerkt en ingekleurd heb voor het uiteindelijke resultaat waar ik best wel tevreden mee ben. 

Maar nu weer op naar de volgende opdracht. 

A cartoon of myself

Ik heb eindelijk mijn cartoonportret uitgewerkt voor mijn zussenstrip binnenkort. Ik heb hem op photoshop ingekleurd. en ik moet zeggen, dat digitaal kleuren gaat me beter en beter af. 

I finally started making myself as a cartoon for my sistercomic. I worked it out in photoshop and I must say, digital painting and colouring, it is going better and better. 

Buitenschoolse opdrachten

Er kwamen de laatste dagen verschillende opdrachten binnengerold. Heerlijk :) Het geeft me altijd zo een voldoening om echte opdrachten vast te krijgen en uit te voeren. Dus tussen mijn examen door nam ik af en toe mijn schetsboek ter hand en begon ik met volle goesting aan deze buitenschoolse activiteiten. 

The last couple of days I had several assignments outside of school. I love it :) It gives me such a satisfaction to do assignments outside of the normal schoolwork. So between my exams i took my sketchbook and worked on these assignments. 

De eerste opdracht was er één voor een logo ontwerp van een tweedehands autohandelaar. Het moest er classy uitzien. Daarbij een typografisch logo. Iets dat ik nog niet ondernomen had maar wat ik zeker eens wou proberen omdat ik denk dat ik wel met lettervormen om kan gaan. Dus er werd geschetst en voorgelegd en besproken.

The first assignment was one for a logo design for a secondhand cardealer. It had to be a typographic and classy logo. Something i hadn't done before but really wanted to try because i had a feeling i can work with those lettershapes pretty well.

Op het einde zag mijn werkblad in illustrator er zo uit. Kleine aanpassingen, bespreken, knippen plakken en eorp verder werken. Ohja er zit een logica in het verhaal, in het vervolg moet ik er wat meer structuur in brengen zodat ik niets kwijt geraak of gewoon dubbel werk verricht door stommiteit.

In the end this was my worksheet in illustrator. Little details to change, copying and pasting. discussing and moving on. There is some logic to it. But next time i have to make it a little bit more organised. 

Dit is het eindresultaat. Ik ben redelijk tevreden met het resultaat.

Een andere opdracht was een schetsontwerp voor een cd-cover. Het samenbrengen van ideen bracht ons tot dit. De bandleden als skeletten in het zottenkot. 

A different assignment was a sketsdesign for a cdcover. The collab with them made this idea. The bandmembers as a skeleton in a nuthouse. 

Een derde opdracht was om een portret te schilderen. Ik moet er nog steeds één maken in potlood. Was best wel leuk om nog eens zo een technische opdracht te doen. Gewoon uitvoeren.

And a thirth assignment was to paint a portrait. I still need to do an other in pencil before thursday. It was fun to make a  portrait like this again. It has been a long time. 

Marktje in Maaseik

Ongeveer anderhalve week geleden kreeg ik een mailtje. Een mevrouw had ooit eens mijn visitekaartje te pakken gekregen. Ze hield een kunstmarktje en zou het graag willen dat ik er ook bij was. Dat is was eens iets anders. Ze had een zorghoeve in Maaseik en die hielden nu voor de tweede keer een happening. Ik stemde toe en zo stond ik gisteren dus in een serre met nog een paar andere en mijn creatieve spulletjes. 

About a week ago i got an email from a lady asking me to join her artfair. that was something diffrent! The lady has a farm in Maaseik were she also takes care of young people with problems, and to raise some money for their organisation they had a second happening this time it was the fallhappening. So that is how i was standing in a greenhouse yesterday with all of my drawings and paintings.

Eigenlijk had ik buiten mijn abstracte schilderijen niets om te verkopen. En ik had echt niet verwacht dat er een schilderij ging verkocht worden. Zo van die marktjes, daar gebeurt dat nooit op, die zijn er eerder om massa's visitekaartjes uit te delen. Maar zodat ik toch iets had om te verkopen en dat ik toch een beetje winst had uit die dag had ik nog snel wenskaarten gemaakt uit lino.

I actually didn't have anything to sell on this artfair. Except my paintings but i didn't think i would sell one, these artfairs are not the place for that. But it was a perfect place to give out some businnescards. But just so i could sell something or just have a little bit of profit from that day i made some greetingcards out of linoprints.

En toch ben ik niet met grote kapitalen naar huis gegaan, ik had welgeteld 2 klanten... die kunstmarktjes zijn eigenlijk echt mijn ding niet. Maar nogmaals, een perfecte plaats om contacten te leggen en kaartjes uit te delen. En dat is geweldig gegaan, er was namelijk een kunstenaar die beelden maakt uit ijzer. Het zijn geweldig mooie dingen. We hebben gezellig zitten babbelen en hij heeft een hele hoop kaartjes van mij meegenomen om aan zijn klanten te geven... je weet maar nooit :D

And still i didn't had a lot of money going home. I had 2 customers in that whole day. Those artfairs arn't really my cup of tea. But again! it is the perfect spot to get to know some colleagues and distribute some business cards. and that went perfectlly. There also was an artist who made statues out of iron. Beautifull things! We had a nice chat and in the end he took a whole bunch of cards from me to give to his clients... you never know. :D

Ik had me die dag dan weer bezig gehouden met wat te tekenen. Eens iets helemaal anders dan dat ik gewoon doe. Een portret tekenen van een foto. Een enorm schattige foto van mijn metekindje! Was echt tof om te doen. Maar ik weet niet als ik er al tevreden mee ben, misschien dat ik er eens verder op ga proberen met waterverf ofzo...

A portrait of my mother

Dit is mijn mama van 4 verschillende foto's getekend. Ik denk echt dat ze het helemaal is. Haar heel karakter is te zien op deze tekening en mensen die haar kennen zullen waarschijnlijk hetzelfde zeggen.

This is my mother drawn from 4 diffrent pictures. I really feel this is her in every way. Her whole charachter is in this drawing. And people who know her will probalbly say the same thing. 

50 reasons not to date a graphic designer.

1. They are very weird people.
2. There are billions of them in the world, like colors on the screen of your computer.
3. They will analyse conversations in layers.
4. You will spend the day assembling furniture from IKEA.
5. They drink and eat all kinds of weird shit just because they like the packaging.
6. They hate each other.
7. You’ll come out the last out of the movies because you have to see the full list of credits.
8. They cant change a light bulb or without making a sketch.
9. They fuck up all the tables with their cutters.
10. They rather study the paisley pattern on your outfit than listen to what you have to say.

Ik haal 28 op de 50, dat is 56 procent dus dat valt nog goed mee. Maar die wat juist zijn voor mij, die zijn er ook helemaal boenk op!

Hier trouwens een tekening die ik gisteren maakte. Ik ben er niet 100 procent tevreden mee. Ik heb bijvoorbeeld niet zo een lang hoofd. Maar het was lang geleden dat ik nog eens op deze manier heb getekend. Ik wou me gewoon eens concentreren op niets en alles. Modeltekenen kan mijn gedachten helemaal opslorpen. Dat is wat ik nodig had.

Uitnodiging

Mijn tante gaat binnekort op pensioen. En daarom geeft ze op haar werk een feestje. En ze had mij gevraagd om de uitnodiging te maken met een illustratie van haar en de man die samen zijn pensioensfeest geeft. Het was wat proberen en schetsen van foto's af. Uiteindelijk ben ik op dit kaartje gekomen. De man is blijkbaar een duivenmelker en mijn tante heeft een hond. Samen op de uitnodiging met wat diertjes is dus leuk.
